About the Alzheimer Society
What We Do
The Alzheimer Society works to improve the quality of life for Canadians affected by Alzheimer's and related diseases. We are located in over 140 communities across every province in Canada. Since 1978, we've been dedicated to supporting the search for a cure and to helping people with Alzheimer's and related diseases.
We provide a number of services, including:
We also support a number of public awareness campaigns.
We work with our partners to provide approximately $2 million annually in grants and awards for research. This helps speed up the search for a cure, and improve the lives of those affected.
As the national voice for people affected by Alzheimer's and related diseases, the Alzheimer Society has an important role to play in advocating for change within our provincial and federal governments. The Society is currently advocating the Government of Canada to make dementia a national health care priority through the development of a Canadian Dementia Management Strategy. You can help by raising your voice, sending an e-mail to your MP, or becoming an Alzheimer Advocate.
One of our key initiatives is Safely HomeŽ. Registering someone with Safely HomeŽ makes it easier for police to find a person with Alzheimer's disease who is lost and return the person home safely. More than 29,000 Canadians are now registered with Safely HomeŽ.
